Frequently Asked Questions about New Student Orientation (NSO) 2012:
  • When is New Student Orientation?
    • New Student Orientation will begin on Saturday, August 25, 2012 and will conclude on Tuesday, August 28, 2012. Classes for all Georgetown undergraduate students will begin on Wednesday, August 29, 2012 and will follow a regular Monday class schedule.
  • How do I register (for Parent & Family Orientation)?
    • Visit our NSO Website Parent & Family page and under the 'Links for Families' column on the right side of the page, click on the 'Register for Family and Parent Orientation' title. 
  • What is Parent & Family Orientation?
    • Parent & Family Orientation is a specific set of events occuring during New Student Orientation that welcome parents and families into the Georgetown University community. 
  • When is Parent & Family Orientation?
    • Parent & Family Orientation will occur on Saturday, August 25, 2012 through the afternoon on Sunday August 26, 2012
  • Who is invited to New Student Orientation?
    • Parents and families are welcome at New Student Orientation as whole, however, there are some events in which only new students are welcome and other events that are exclusive to parents and families. Parents and families will depart New Student Orientation on Sunday, August 26 following the Good-Bye Lunch.
  • When can my new student move in and when can I see the NSO schedule?
    • New student move-in instructions are provided based on residence hall. Move-ins will occur in the evening on Friday, August 24, 2012 and the morning on Saturday, August 25, 2012.
    • New students will receive a welcome folder at the Registration Tent (Saturday, August 25) with a detailed new-student-oriented schedule for NSO.
    • There are two Parent & Family Orientation Registration tables at NSO Registration (morning, Saturday August 25 and Late Check-In that evening) in which parents and families can pick up a detailed family-oriented schedule for NSO.
  • Are meals provided for new students? Are meals provided for parents and families?
    • Yes - new students will have lunch and dinner on Saturday, August 25, and will have breakfast, lunch, and dinner provided by NSO from Saturday, August 25 through Tuesday, August 28.
    • Yes and no -  parents and families are welcome at the President's Picnic (Saturday, August 25) and at the Good-bye Lunch (Sunday, August 26). 
  • Where do parents and families stay/are there accommodations?
    • New students will begin their stay at Georgetown University when they move in (according to Residence Hall, on either Friday, August 24 or Saturday, August 25). Parents and families can find links to hotel accommodations AFTER JUNE 20, on the NSO Families website page by clicking on the right hand column link "Hotels and Accommodations". 
  • Where can we park for Parent & Family Orientation events?
    • Parking for Parent & Family Orientation will be open in either the Southwest Quadrangle parking garage (located inside the Canal Road entrance to campus) or the Leavey Center parking garage (located inside the Reservoir Road entrance to campus) on the evening of Friday, August 24, and all day Saturday, August 25 and Sunday, August 26. 
    • Parking garages for move-in days (evening, Friday August 24 and morning, Saturday August 25) are delineated by the residence hall of the new student and are explained in new student housing materials. 
  • Are there events for children?
    • There is a "Sibling Break" event occurring during Late Check-In on Saturday, August 25, in the Leavey Center Program Room. This "Sibling Break" is open to siblings of all ages and occurs simultaneously with Parent & Family Orientation (occurring in the Leavey Center Ballroom).
  • When will I see my new student(s) during Parent & Family Orientation?
    • Parents and families are welcome at New Student Orientation as a whole! 
    • Student-only events include the Welcome Session, Convocation Procession, Saturday & Sunday night programming, and Residence Hall Floor meetings.
    • Parents and family only events include the Parent & Family Orientation panels occurring in the evening on Saturday, August 25.
    • Parents and families are welcome to attend new student events that include NSO Registration, Open Houses, President's Picnic, Campus & Neighborhood tours, New Student Convocation Ceremony (TICKET REQUIRED; will receive at Registration), and the Good-bye Lunch.
