New Student Opportunities: Pre Orientation Programs!

Pre-Orientation Programs provide opportunities to get involved in the Georgetown community before New Student Orientation and are a great way to meet new friends! Each one is different, so check below for information about each one.

  • FOCI: First-Year Orientation to Community Involvement
    • First-Year Orientation to Community Involvement is an intensive pre-orientation program for incoming first-year students. FOCI's goal is to serve as an introduction to community service, volunteer activism, and social justice issues in the Washington, D.C. community. FOCI participants will actively engage in community service; discover and reflect on the diverse populations, perspectives, and roles in the Georgetown and Washington, D.C. communities; develop the capacity for leadership; and become part of a community committed to personal growth through service and reflection. • YLEAD: Young Leaders in Education About Diversity
    • Young Leaders in Education and Development is a dynamic pre-orientation program for incoming first-year Georgetown students that seeks to foster dialogue and action on complex issues including (but not limited to): sexual orientation, religion, race, class, gender, ability, and age. In this peer-led program students are immersed in the basics of diversity education and identity exploration (For more information click here).
    • "As a past participant in the YLEAD program, I cannot imagine what my freshman year at  Georgetown would have been like without the experience of participating in the program.  Through it, I became acquainted with the campus and community while meeting some of my  closest friends here. I was challenged to question many of my previous assumptions and  experiences on topics of identity, diversity, and social justice. YLEAD also allowed me to start  some of the meaningful conversations I have had in college, while giving me the tools to keep  them going. I encourage you and your student to consider applying to YLEAD – and any of the  other pre-orientation programs!" -- James Saucedo
